Fitz Root Beer

In 1993, Fitz’s opened in the Delmar Loop area of University City, a suburb of St. Louis. To assure authenticity, the call went out for a vintage bottling line. Incredibly, a 1940’s bottling line was found in an old barn in Shawano, Wisconsin. It was refurbished and installed at the restaurant, where it is visible from every table on the main floor. Fully operational, the bottling line can turn out a bottle every second….of root beer or other popular flavor, such as cream and orange.

Blueberry Hill

We first opened our doors way back in 1972, when the Delmar Loop neighborhood was a desolate, empty street that had seen better days. “We wanted to open a welcoming place that was all about music, pop culture memorabilia, and great food to share a beer over,” say owners Joe Edwards and Linda Edwards. “We were young and idealistic and within a week of opening set out to revitalize the Delmar Loop.”

Tivoli Theatre

On May 10, 1924, the ornate Tivoli Theatre opened to the public. The evening’s festivities included speeches by St. Louis Mayor Henry W. Kiel and University City Mayor Warren C. Flynn, a “photoplay” called The Confidence Man, music from the Jules Silberberg Orchestra, Art Lee Utt at the Kilgen Wonder Organ and five vaudeville acts. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch described the theatre as having “luxury and splendor eclipsing that of any other St. Louis theater” and “the piece de resistance of glorified beauty.”
